The innovations by Santoni are explored in regular updates that examine new developments in stitch, yarn, fiber, engineering and technical knowledge for the circular knitting market.
Sleepwear as a technical term has become hazy after experiencing the pandemic; it merged with loungewear and homewear in the early days when we were all restricted to our home environments. What was once a garment that was strictly worn in private, only to be seen by family in the evenings has evolved into a more fluid interpretation of comfortable clothes to be worn inside and outside the home.

While before we would be sure to keep our sleepwear safe behind closed doors, this is not the case anymore as the classic materials such as flannel or silk have been discarded for more subtle solid colors and materials like cotton jerseys and lofty surfaces created with boucle yarns and terry structures. With Santoni’s main machine technology (Top2 fast) we can use a special sinker cap to create beautiful, engineered terry structures. For a more detailed look at our terry technology you can view our best practices report on this cutting edge development here.
Just as the materials of sleepwear have evolved, so have the silhouettes, as the traditional nightgown and pajama set are replaced by easy layering separates that look similar to our everyday casual wear like tees, tanks and jogging pants. The fundamental change in what the consumer is now looking for is truly in the hand-feel of the garment, as buyers find it difficult to return to apparel that scratches or irritates their skin, making the technology offered by Santoni perfect in avoiding inconveniently placed seams that bother the wearer.
